As part of the Glass Manifestation and Building Regulations 2000: Part M, it is a health and safety requirement to apply manifestations to glass doors and partitions. If your building contains full height glass windows, doors or partitions, they must be marked with glass manifestations to ensure the solid glass is evident.
The manifestation should be designed to make the glass partition obvious, reducing injuries and contrasting visually with the background seen through the glass. The requirement officially states that the manifestations are clearly defined on the glass at two levels, 850 to 1000mm, and 1400 to 1600mm above the floor. The alternative is the manifestation is a logo or branded signage at least 150mm high, or a decorative feature such as broken lines or continuous bands at least 50mm high.
The regulation also considers those with visual impairments, stating that any employee should be in no doubt as to where the glass doors or partitions are, and that glass manifestations or glazed screens should be used to the person’s satisfaction.
